Does Membrandt integrate with my Wordpress content?

Wordpress is a great platform, however, it is primarily designed as a desktop access platform. The content that Membrandt provides is primarily audio and video content and requires extensive optimization to work well with mobile phones. When designing Membrandt, we thought long and hard about trying to integrate with customer's existing Wordpress site, however, in the end we decided against it for several reasons:

  • Our performance within the app would be limited by the clients hosting plan. If a client opted for a budge hosting plan, it would damage the reputation of our app in the marketplace as it would be perceived as our performance problem even though the hosting plan selected was at fault.
  • Our feature set would be very limited. The problem with integrating into a Wordpress site is that now we are not truly mobile. One of the major benefits that we offer is to be able to work in offline mode. But if we were forced to goto your Wordpress site to retrieve content, that would only work if the end-user was online and defeat all of our offline capabilities.
  • We use a very different audio/video streaming solution — tech developed and licensed by Apple — to provide the fastest and most mobile optimized audio/video streaming possible. We could not provide that if we were limited by using Vimeo, Wistia or YouTube embed codes.
  • We have many hooks and actions integrated with our audio/video player which would also not work if we were dependent upon a third-party media player.

While we love and use Wordpress, it just wasn't the best fit for an ideal Mobile First approach that our app platform provides.
